Kelly & Alex
October 19, 2019
“Alex invited my family and a bunch of our friends out to the farm and told me we were going to have a party. This was not out of the ordinary, so I suspected nothing of it. When I got to the farm, Alex had set up a massive pallet bonfire and several tents with hay benches in one of his fields. I was helping set up the final touches when his mother came to get me saying she needed help with one of the dogs. When we got back to the field, the first thing I noticed was the large fire, but it didn’t take long for me to turn and see a wooden sign lit up with marquee lettering with the words ‘will you marry me’. I looked down and saw Alex holding the ring and of course I said ‘yes’.
“Our wedding theme was rustic! We are both huge into outdoorsy activities and Alex loves to hunt, so we incorporated the antlers into the beautiful arch installation and centerpieces. I also used wine bottles with fairy lights and Modelo bottles to represent the family business, distributing beer and wine. I used the lanterns because they put such a peaceful, homey touch to the whole theme!
“One of the most unique elements of our décor was the cupcake tower made by my father. It was really impressive having four layers of hand cut and treated oak wood bases connected with metal rotating fixtures that made a cupcake tree.
“My Grandma turns 99 on Christmas Day. She let me know in the early wedding planning stages that she would be unable to attend. She said it would be too difficult to maneuver and she has issues in general getting out of her comfort zone. I went to see her a few days before the wedding and she returned to me a pearl bracelet that I had gifted her years ago to be my ‘something borrowed‘. Fast forward a few days, I was in the bridal suite with my bridesmaids telling them about my Grandma’s bracelet and wishing she was there. Little did I know my Grandma was 500 feet away waiting to surprise me. It wasn’t until after Alex and I said ‘I do‘ that I turned and saw her. After regaining my composure, I gave her the biggest hug ever. There wasn’t a dry eye at the ceremony. I have never felt so much love in one place as I did on my wedding day. The moment I saw my Grandma sitting in the front row, with all of my family and friends looking on, is hands down one of the best and most important moments of my life.” ~ Kelly
