Katherine & Jason
October 6, 2019
“Jason and I actually met in the Kimpton. We both lived in the apartments, The Residences, on the 7th floor. One day after work, I was checking to see if a package was delivered when Jason was checking his mail. We talked briefly, then kept running into each other in the hallway of the building, which lead to our first date.
“I definitely thought he was cute, but I was more focused on my package at the time - a box of chocolates from my future maid of honor, and the chocolates we gave out as wedding favors. We ended up going on three dates back-to-back nights because it was during the ACC tournament and I’m a superstitious UNC fan. The Tar Heels kept winning when I was on dates with him until they fell to UVA in the final.
“Our wedding day was a rainy day, which is supposed to be good luck! The whole set up was really awesome because we had so much family from out of town that could stay in the hotel and venue location. They were able to explore downtown, play in the playroom, and help with set up, while the wedding party had respective places to get ready.
“My mom’s older siblings were the officiants for the ceremony allowing for sweet personal touches and modifications. Our flower girls were my 15-month old niece, and Jason’s 15-year old niece. My niece cried when she saw all the people, but her dad stepped in (with a tie matching her dress!) and the three of them walked down the aisle.
“Our theme ended up having a lot of elephants. The groom and groomsmen had Lilly Pulitzer ties, ‘Mint to Be‘, which had elephants, the baby flower girl had elephants on her dress, my mom had elephant jewelry, and we had a little elephant statue as part of the memorial for Jason’s mom. Elephants are symbolic for wisdom and good luck, but also unity. We celebrated with dinner and dancing, some photo booth fun, and lots of pictures.” ~ Katherine
