Emily & Dave
October 20, 2018
"Dave and I try to plan as many fun activities/day dates/date nights as possible because of our busy schedules. It’s important to us that we plan time together and enjoy each other’s company in between work and other responsibilities. One Friday afternoon, Dave texted me to ask what I wanted to do with our weekend off. At the exact same time that I was sending another text, Dave sent one to me...both suggesting going to Pilot Mountain. Jinx!”
"Due to clouds and fog, Dave’s plan to propose at the top of Pilot Mountain changed because he was unhappy with the view. Being a quick thinker, he devised a new plan. Dave convinced me to hike to the Yadkin River on Bean Shoals Trail.
"High creeks, hot, muggy weather, getting attacked by gnats, seeing a snake, and Dave nearly slipping on a rock didn’t stop this proposal. Would you believe he had the ring TIED TO HIS DANG GYM SHORTS! That’s a lot of trust to put in a tiny little string. Luckily, the ring made it to my finger safely because that’s right where it belongs.
"If we could say there was a theme for our wedding, it was ‘any and everything that we wanted’ and that it was ‘perfectly Dave and Emily’. We are both pretty laid back but really wanted to fancy it up for our wedding, while still having fun and making it uniquely ours. Dave and the groomsmen wore tuxedos. My dress was very romantic with lace sleeves. The cake was a classic 3-tier wedding cake with white icing, and there were also dozens and dozens of Krispy Kreme doughnuts because they are my favorite. Dave always celebrates special occasions with a dozen doughnuts instead of a dozen roses! The DJ played lots of ‘one hit wonder’ type songs, music that reminded us of our college days, oldies, and requested songs from guests’ RSVPs to keep everything really unique and personal.
"We had two very unique elements that day. First, we couldn’t imagine being married by a stranger or someone we did not know well or who did not know us and our love for one another. We took a chance and asked Dave’s dad to marry us. It was absolutely perfect having him perform our marriage ceremony. Secondly, we decided on our wedding date of March 23 to honor Dave’s late grandfather as a way to include him on our wedding day. “Our wedding was absolutely perfect! Stress free and fun! Dave and I were both calm and relaxed the whole day and enjoyed every last second of it!" ~ Emily
