Diana & Justin
Both students at UNC Wilmington, Diana and Justin met at their jobs at Old Navy. After days of flirting, Diana finally got the courage to ask Justin to a Valentine's Day party that she and her roommates were having for all the single folks. He did join them and after hours of talking, he asked her out on a date.
Justin graduated before Diana, but the couple continued to date with Justin driving from Winston-Salem to Wilmington every weekend. One day, Justin arranged for Diana's roommate to ‘rally the two to help search for seashells for a costume she needed to make.’ As they searched for shells, Justin called Diana over to see one he had found. She was greeted with a box he had made from shells that contained a beautiful ring, followed by a proposal. Her roommate had captured it all on video!
The couple married at the exquisite Cetwick Event Center in Asheboro, incorporating some of Diana's favorite colors of coral and gold. With rain in the forecast, they made the executive decision to move the ceremony inside, which worked out beautifully. They did the unity sand ceremony, and since Diana is Hispanic, they also incorporated the traditional coin ceremony called las arras, where a box of thirteen unity coins is blessed and then presented by the groom to the bride. The thirteen coins symbolize Jesus and the twelve apostles, and the exchange of the coins represent the groom's promise to provide for his family, and the bride's trust in his ability to do so.
One of the funny memories of their night was when the fire department showed up. “The dance floor was so hot the fire department showed up! Our DJ had a smoke machine and after running it a few times, it set the fire alarms off. The firefighters showed up and even joined us on the dance floor for a song!” remembered Diana.
“If I could change anything about our day it would be to make it last longer! The day went by in the blink of an eye and before we knew it, it was time to leave!”
