Katie & John
Katie and John (JK) grew up just a few miles from each other in the Jamestown area, but never knew it at the time. It wasn’t until they were both living in the Triangle that they would meet. They went on their first few dates in January of 2012 and the rest is history!
“We both agree that we wouldn’t say it was ‘love at first site’, but we knew it was going to be something special from the first time we met. There was something that was different, in a good way,” shared Katie.
“Our engagement was absolutely perfect. A sweet, simple afternoon spent walking our dog on the beach led to a beautiful, unexpected proposal. We wouldn’t change a thing about that day!”
Katie and JK chose to have an out-of-town wedding so that family and friends had an excuse to get away for the weekend. They knew they wanted to get married at the beach, but did not want a “beach wedding”. When they found Sea Trail Golf Resort, they fell in love with the gardens there. It was exactly what they wanted, an outdoor garden ceremony followed by a ballroom reception. It was important to the couple that they have their ceremony and reception at the same venue to make it as easy as possible for guests.
Katie and JK did not have a specific theme for their wedding, but knew they wanted a classy, light and airy feel. They wanted a relaxed atmosphere where their guests would feel comfortable and really be able to enjoy themselves. They selected a color palette that primarily consisted of white, gold, champagne, and a dark navy accent.
One of the most unique elements of their wedding was their officiate. When Katie’s childhood minister was not available the weekend of their wedding, Katie and JK chose to have JK’s dad officiate their ceremony.
“We knew we wanted someone special to take on that role. It really meant a lot to us and is something that will hold a special place in our hearts,” said Katie.
When asked what advice she would give to future brides and grooms, Katie replied, “Getting married out of town is difficult. Having multiple vendors in multiple cities is tough! I strongly recommend having a wedding planner to help. Hiring Susan Marie, owner of Coordinated Events, was one of the best decisions we made. For example, she led us to Designs North Florist who gave us exactly what we wanted within our budget!”
Katie also discussed the importance of having a photographer that you truly connect with. “Amanda Sutton with Amanda Sutton Photography has been a gem to work with. She has gone more than above and beyond for our special day and everything leading up to it. She is so easy to communicate with and gave us exactly what we wanted. We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with her on multiple occasions leading up to our wedding day!”
