David & Chris
David had just moved home to Valdosta, GA from college in Savannah where Chris was attending Valdosta State University for his Music Education undergraduate degree. A mutual friend was having a recital in Savannah that they both planned on attending, and their friend suggested they travel together. A week before the recital, they decided to meet for dinner to get to know each other and that meeting quickly turned into their first date.
By the time they were able to be legally married in N.C. David and Chris had already been together almost seven years and lived here for four of those years. In their minds they were already committed to each other and when the law changed they made a decision together to make it official. Their romantic grand gesture moment happened in 2010 around two and a half years after they started dating. Chris bought rings and surprised David by placing the ring under his pillow and asking him to spend the rest of his life with him.
David and Chris wanted their day to be reminiscent of an awards ceremony after party where there just happened to be a wedding. They wanted it to be relaxed and elegant for everyone to have fun and not to worry about formality.
Held at Proximity Hotel, the ceremony and reception were all in one room. The two were married on the dance floor, and instead of having a traditional seated dinner they had lounge areas, passed hors d’oeuvres and a mac and cheese station.
“Neither of our parents were able to have a big ceremony or reception, so we wanted to have both of those for them as much as for ourselves,” said David.
“Our wedding was more about the relaxed cocktail party atmosphere than a specific theme; the black, grey, deep purple and citron green color palette throughout, fun directional signing, photo vignettes, and casual seating areas with mismatched furniture helped us to create this feeling,” David continued.
Some of their favorite elements of the day included the intimate non-traditional room setting and the addition of their canine ring bearers.
“The Proximity team was absolutely perfect. Jacob, Morgan and Brenda were incredible to work with and anticipated needs we didn’t even know we had. Our wedding day was everything we wanted it to be and we wouldn’t have changed a thing,” concluded David.
