Tracy & Jaron
“I was hand chosen for him by his mom and dad,” WFMY News 2 Anchor, Tracey McCain, joked as she remembered how she knew Jaron’s parents before him. “They introduced us.”
That first date was all it took for Tracey and Jaron, an attorney, to be inseparable. Plans for a second date were made before the first one was even over. It was love at first site with an engagement coming just nine months after that first date.
Tracey and Jaron got engaged in a similar fashion to how they met, with family. After attending her parents’ church in Efland, they planned an early dinner out with her family and then went to her parents’ house to hang out.
“Jaron was very quiet on the way to church and again at dinner. I didn’t think anything of it. I just figured he was tired from the night before.”
After dinner, at her parents’ house, they were watching an old UNC/PBS special about classic R&B groups. As Tracey got up to start dancing, her mom started teasing that if she had planned to get married she would need dance lessons. Everyone in the room laughed. Jaron though, made a move over to her. He started dancing with her.
“I told him we shouldn’t dance because my mom says we needed lessons. To that, he replied, ‘I want to dance with you for the rest of my life.’ I melted, but I was not expecting what happened next. Jaron dropped to one knee, pulled out a beautiful, sparkling diamond ring and asked me to be his wife. I haven’t come down from that cloud yet,” Tracey said.
When it came to planning, Tracey wanted a traditional, elegant, glamorous and over-the-top wedding. Wedding planner, Nishaka Proctor, gave Tracey everything she dreamed of.
“Everything was just right. From the linens to the centerpieces -- it was stunning!”
Their wedding colors - wine and champagne - were a true compliment to their theme.
“We knew from the start we wanted our wedding day to be a party; a huge celebration. What better way to toast true love than with wine and champagne?”
“The meteorologists were calling for 90% chance of rain on that August day. I was a little nervous about the forecast...but the sun was shining when I walked down the aisle. The ceremony was classic, traditional and everything I dreamed it would be.
“When the doors opened and the congregation stood to its feet, I focused straight on my groom and noticed he was trying to hold it all in. By the time I reached him, he was in tears. Luckily, I had a kerchief ready to wipe his cute little eyes.”
Both the ceremony and reception were gorgeous with the most elegant floral arrangements created by Petal Creations. Even the pews were adorned with small bundles of gardenias, Tracey’s favorite flower. The only thing bigger than the decor was the true love and joy beaming from the bride and groom as they were united as one.
The weather cooperated; and the couple was able to have their outdoor pictures on Starmount Forest Country Club’s beautiful greens.
The first time Mr. and Mrs. Barbee were introduced at the reception, their guests were greeted with a special surprise.
“We planned, and practiced, a fun entry dance to wow the crowd. It was tough keeping it a secret, but when we walked through the doors, it was a moment our guests will never forget. To this day people are still talking about it.
“We wouldn’t change a thing about our wedding day! It’s a day I will never forget, arguably one of the best in my life,” Tracey concluded.
