Ashley & Matt
SHE REMEMBERED HIM AS THE CUTE BOY in high school. They had known each other since elementary school, but that wasn’t where they connected. It was in the early spring of 2008 where Matthew and Ashley truly “met”, when mutual friends brought them together. They quickly hit
it off and began dating right away.
Their first date was quite an experience for these two. They had planned a lovely picnic at a state park, next to a gorgeous waterfall…until they got lost on the way. They drove for two hours searching for the park, until they gave up and went back home to find a local lake. Both of them were starving and they finally got a chance to sit down and drink some wine to help them get over the last two stressful hours. That was when they discovered they forgot the bottle opener! Matthew, always the life-saver, made a few attempts to open their beers with a lighter, and after a few bloody knuckles, they were finally able to drink their nice, but warm, beers and enjoy the rest of their picnic.
It was only a few months later when Ashley headed to NYC for an internship. Michael remained in Greensboro and, despite the long-distance, their relationship only grew. Ashley moved to Raleigh a few months later, graduated from college, and began working at a department store. Michael was still in school, working towards an MBA , as well as working a job with a third-shift position. Again, despite their busy lives, and their lack of time spent together, they managed to build a friendship and trust that would withstand each of these obstacles. Ashley eventually moved in with Michael in Greensboro, their relationship always and forever growing more and more each day.
Their fun occurrence of a first date, combined with their long distance relationship and difficult schedules, did not put even the slightest doubt in Matthew’s heart. At the end of February, 2013, Ashley went through her usual bedtime routine. The only unusual occurrence was that Cooper, Bandit, and Dakota, their three Australian Shepherds, were in the bed before she was. She waved it off as she crawled into bed with their three babies. As she gave each of them their good night kisses, Ashley noticed a bow around each dog’s neck. Investigating further, she discovered a small scroll in Cooper’s bow with the words, “You’re the best thing that ever happened to my Daddy.” Reaching for Dakota, she found another stating, “Please marry my Daddy so we can all be a pack.” The final note made the last simple request, “Please be our Mommy forever.”
Tears streamed down Ashley’s face as she hugged her dogs, looking around for Matthew. As she opened their bedroom door to search for him, there he was, down on one knee, ring in his hand, and a giant smile on his face. He presented her with his Grandmother’s engagement ring and asked her to be his wife. Completely honored, floored, and in love, Ashley tearfully said yes!
As Ashley and Matthew began the wedding planning process, Ashley quickly learned one important detail: the mere thought of planning a wedding made her break out in a cold sweat! So when 107.5 KZL sponsored their ‘Wedding Krashers’ contest for a stunning wedding at Willow Oaks Plantation, she jumped at the opportunity to take the stress of planning off their shoulders. It also would give them the opportunity to do some good, by donating their current wedding savings to charity. What a beautiful surprise it was for them when they won! Their wedding, sponsored by the radio station, included incredible vendors, such as Willow Oaks Plantations as a venue, a cake from Maxie B’s, a gown from Bridal Mart, and even a honeymoon sponsored by A Way To Go Travel. With these items handled by the contest, Ashley and Michael focused on the details.
Relish Design Company helped the couple bring in all their personal elements, incorporating their love for all things classic, bohemian, and earthy. Ashley’s favorite color, green, they dressed their bridal party of 10 in green. Bridesmaids wore green Grecian gowns, complemented by the groomsmen’s green ties and argyle socks. Their wedding fell on a perfect fall day in November. The bridal party stayed at Willow Oak’s lodge the night before, and started their lovely day with pastries, fruit and, of course, mimosas! Between the beautiful scenery of Willow Oaks Plantation, and the incredible collection of vendors, both Ashley and Matthew enjoyed a celebration to remember!
